House Hunting event for UK postgraduates

Whether you are new to the city or simply starting a new term at Cardiff University, our Postgraduate House Hunting Event is designed to help you settle in.

The Postgraduate House Hunting Event is aimed at new and current Cardiff University postgraduate students who are looking for shared rented accommodation for the next academic year.

In just three days, we will guide you through the process of meeting new housemates, finding accommodation to suit your needs and signing along the dotted line. The event will also provide you with the opportunity to get to know your fellow postgraduates and sample Cardiff’s vibrant social scene!

If you missed the event for this academic year, you can still join our Postgraduate Housing Facebook group, where you can meet other Cardiff University Postgraduates in search of shared accommodation for 2012/13.

When is it?

The next House Hunting Event will take place in August 2013.

About the event

The House Hunting Event is organised by the Postgraduate Recruitment Office in conjunction with the Graduate Centre. The full event schedule will be sent out with booking confirmations when the 2013 event is open, but below is a brief summary of what you can expect.

Welcome and orientation sessions will be run by staff and students from Cardiff University and the Students' Union. These will provide advice and information on:

  • Tenancy agreements
  • Finding accommodation to rent
  • Different areas of Cardiff

Ice-breaking activities will help you get to know other attendees at the event.

You will be encouraged to meet as many people as possible in order to find housemates you are happy with.

You have plenty of time to check out properties available to rent and to organise viewings either on your own or in a group.

A buffet dinner and pub quiz will be included in the event fee.

Prospective PGCE (Further Education) students

Please remember that teaching placements for PGCE students are in and around Cardiff and, for some students, it may be better to locate outside Cardiff for Part 2 of the course (January until the end of May). It therefore may not be advisable for you to enter into a long-term contract with a landlord in August.

Short-term lets

This event is not aimed at students who are seeking short-term lets. Students seeking short-term lets are welcome to attend but you should note that these are usually not released by landlords until end August/beginning of Sept.

The Student Advisory service maintains a list of private accommodation which is available to rent and which includes those available for short-term let. For further information about short-term letting in Cardiff please contact Student Advisory (advice@cardiff.ac.uk or 029 2078 1410).

Continuing students

Continuing postgraduate students who are looking for shared rented accommodation for the remaining year/s of their postgraduate study at Cardiff University are welcome to attend this event.
