International Collaboration on a novel research project
A A'Bear PhD Research Student, Bioscience
My Alumni Travel scholarship allowed me to work at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart for 10 weeks; learning new techniques. I developed a novel area of research and the trip was a great success! I analysed fungal biomass and enzyme activity under simulated climate change scenarios. The findings were significant and had considerable implications for woodland ecosystems. The project generated at least one publication and future collaborations are already planned. Personally I found experiencing a new culture stimulating.
Update- The work was presented at the British Ecological Society Annual Meeting in December 2012. Andrew has now attracted further funding form the German Academic Exchange Service to fund further collaborative visits.
