Erasmus students
We have a number of agreements with partner universities abroad for the exchange of students on their year abroad. The information below is for incoming Erasmus students visiting Cardiff.
EUROP consists of six different subject areas for undergraduate study: French, German, Hispanic Studies (Catalan and Spanish), Italian, Translation and Politics and offers a wide range of courses, both in arts and social sciences. We provide language modules as well as a variety of courses on culture, history, literature, politics, feminism, present-day society, commercial language, cinema etc. Politics has a very strong European orientation and is focused on the interaction of political theory, institutions and behaviour.
BA Honours courses in language allow Cardiff students to study either one or two languages in depth, as well as to become familiar with the civilisation of those countries whose language they study – not just the literature but the politics, history, society and wider culture also.
All degree programmes have a modular structure with the academic year divided into two twelve week semesters. Each semester is followed by a period of examinations and/or assessments. You will need to enrol for 120 credits if visiting for the whole year, with at least 80 of these credits taken within the School. Student visiting for one semester are required to enrol for 60 credits, with at least 40 of these credits taken within the School.

Applying to study at Cardiff
Your home university will send us a list of nominations. Once we have received confirmation of your name and study period we will send you an application form by email in July. Only students whose names have been confirmed by their home university will receive this e-application form and only those whose names have been confirmed will be processed.
Once you have been registered as a Cardiff student, the central Student Registry will send you a student number, username and password via email. You will need these details to apply for University residences (if you are eligible) and to enrol on-line.
Your details will be passed through several different departments at the University. Please be patient and allow some time for our registration process to run through each necessary step. It may be a number of weeks before you receive your information pack.
If you will be studying at Cardiff University for the full academic year you are guaranteed a place in University residences. If you are studying with us for just one semester, you are not guaranteed University residences but our Residences and Erasmus Offices will give you some advice on finding private accommodation. Information on residences will be sent to you in your information pack from the Erasmus Office.
Arriving in Cardiff
Travel to Cardiff: The International Office organise a free coach collection service to the University on certain dates from Heathrow and Cardiff Airports.
International/European Students Induction Programme: There is an Induction Programme to help International and EU students make friends, learn more about Cardiff and the University in a safe environment so that they can settle down to their new academic life quickly.
Accommodation: Students visiting Cardiff for one semester are not guaranteed a place in University residences. Therefore we suggest that students staying for the autumn semester only, arrive in early/mid September and stay in Senghennydd Hall for a short time whilst they find alternative private accommodation.
