Italian

Italian is well established at Cardiff University, with Italian being taught in Cardiff since the 1950s.
We are a small, friendly section. Since most lecturers in the Italian section are Italian, you will find yourself working in a truly Italian environment from the start of your studies.
Italian staff have a wide range of interests, including Renaissance philosophy, twentieth century literature, contemporary cinema and politics. Our teaching reflects both our interests and our research.
We have a wide range of well-established degree schemes including Italian: BA Single Honours and Joint Honours (in a number of combinations). With all these degree programmes, a full academic year (or half year in the case of a joint language degree) is spent in Italy as a compulsory requirement.
The degree programme is designed to help you develop not only a high degree of linguistic competence, but also a comprehensive understanding of Italy, its culture, history and institutions. Both students with A-Level (or equivalent) in Italian and those with an A-Level in another foreign language are catered for, with separate pathways in the first year.
