French

France is a major actor on the European and world stage and possesses a rich and sophisticated culture. Its language is more important today than it has ever been. Our French degree programmes have been developed over a number of years to respond to the needs and demands of our students.
One major attraction of French at Cardiff is the emphasis on vocational training and students usually have the opportunity to sit the prestigious Paris Chamber of Commerce exam, which is a business French qualification recognised in France and throughout the world.
Our aim is to develop in students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, near-native proficiency in the language, as well as a critical understanding of key aspects of modern and contemporary French literature, culture and of modern France itself. In addition, a degree in French involves learning a whole set of associated transferable skills.
By the end of the four-year course students should have achieved a high level of competency in the language and will have attained an in-depth understanding of France and the Francophone world.
