Electronic Engineering, with a major focus on Wireless and Microwave Communication Engineering, is a discipline at the forefront of advances that have shaped the way we live today and continues to push forward technological frontiers.

The MSc in Wireless and Microwave Communication Engineering at Cardiff (formerly the MSc in Communication Engineering and Digital Signal Processing) is an established and successful course, first taught in 1968, that continues to help people develop expertise in new and evolving areas such as advance microwave computer aided design, and communication systems engineering. Active research has led to the establishment of a number of European Centres of Excellence within the School of Engineering that involve strong links with industry.

Scheme Structure

The advanced study programme, delivered by internationally recognised lecturers, covers topics such as non-linear RF design and concepts, high freqency electrical materials and advanced communications engineering, and offers the choice of studying either micro and nano-technology or optoelectronics. Students acquire knowledge of electronic techniques and industrially applicable skills at an advanced level using current industry standard equipment and software.

Entry Requirements

The scheme largely attracts graduates of Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Physics, though applicants with degrees in other disciplines of science, engineering or mathematics will be considered. The admission requirement is normally a degree with a minimum grade of upper second class. For international students English qualifications of IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90 are required.
