Research

Rae Results

The School supports a range of distinctive and complementary approaches to language, texts, cultures, ideas, values, and identities, involving a mix of humanities and social science methodologies. Its research activity crosses boundaries with many other disciplines and traditions, including biological and medical science, and the social and behavioural sciences.

Individual scholarship and team work are equally valued across our key areas: Language, Literature, Theory, and Philosophy. The research culture is distinguished by its commitment to innovation, scholarship and an openness to interdisciplinary thought. The School’s international record in all areas is founded on the role of its research in changing the disciplinary map.

The School has a thriving postgraduate community, with four specialised PhD programmes. Research fellows and associates attached to projects in the School also contribute to the world-leading environment and each year we welcome International Visiting Scholars, at PhD and also postdoctoral level.

Discipline-related seminar programmes are organised through the year by each of the School's Research Groups and Centres.

We also often host conferences and symposia and workshops and summer schools which draw scholars from around the world to the School.

Staff are also involved in cross-disciplinary initiatives supported by the Cardiff Humanities Research Institute and elsewhere.

Members of the School are regular contributors to the Cardiff Research Papers in the Humanities series, published by the Institute.
