Computational Linguistics Unit (CLU)
The Computational Linguistics Unit (CLU), originally founded and developed by Dr Robin Fawcett, is primarily concerned with implementations and applications of the Cardiff Grammar and in particular, the COMMUNAL Natural Language Generation Project. For over ten years researchers in CLU have been developing a large computational systemic functional grammar of English, which lies at the heart of the overall system for human-machine interaction.
The computationally implemented grammar is now one of the largest in existence, and has an extensive coverage of both grammatical and lexical systems. The development of this grammar, besides advancing research into computational linguistics, serves the development of the theoretical and descriptive aspects of Systemic Functional Grammar.
