Romantic Visual Cultures is hosted by the Centre for Editorial and Intertextual Research (CEIR), founded in 1997, which has since its inception undertaken pioneering research in the fields of nineteenth-century illustration and print culture.
This one-day international conference focuses on various aspects of the visual imagination, fine arts and aesthetics, and the complex relationships between them during the Romantic period. Speakers will be presenting papers on a wide range of topics, including:
- authorship and authority
- public visual culture and coterie book productions
- topography and travel writing
- engraving and polemics
- caricature and politics
- ekphrasis and fragmentation
- ruins and ‘spectacle’
- art and violence
- interpreting and circulating celebrity
- Romanticism and the digital age
