Dr Jenny Pike and colleagues published in latest Nature Geoscience

21 Jan 2013

In the latest Nature Geoscience, Dr Jenny Pike and colleagues present a record of glacial ice discharge on the western side of the Antarctic Peninsula during the Holocene. They show that two processes of atmospheric forcing – more frequent La Niña events and intensified summer insolation – had a stronger influence than the predominant oceanic processes affecting the Palmer Deep in the late Holocene. Given the uncertainty of future El Niño–Southern Oscillation dynamics, Pike et alia offer new insight into the climatic sensitivity of the Antarctic Peninsula Ice Sheet system.
