Support Worker Service
The Support Worker Service was set up in 2003 and is part of the Disability and Dyslexia Service. The Disability and Dyslexia Service at Cardiff University provides support and advice for all students with disabilities.
The Disability and Dyslexia Service at Cardiff University developed a Support Worker Service to enable students with disabilities to compete equally with their peers, and to participate fully in the student experience.
The majority of the Support Workers who support students are employed by the Support Worker Service and are recruited from the student community as they fully understand what is actually involved in being a student, such as:
• Meeting course work deadlines
• The importance of notetaking
• Attending lectures and seminars
We provide notetakers, readers, library support, domestic support and buddy support to suit the needs of individual students as outlined in their Needs Assessment Report. The Support Worker Service acts as a liaison service between students and support workers to ensure that the support being provided is meeting expectations whilst remaining within the boundaries of the role provided.
