Career Profile
From 2008 to 2012, I worked as a senior lecturer on the Advanced Energy and Environment Studies MSc Course at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth, focussing primarily on Distance Learning. The specialist lectures I deliver by Distance Learning or to students attending CAT include: The Sustainable City, Sustainable Transport, The Environmental Movement, Sustainability and Building Materials.
Previously, I worked as a consultant engineer and manager on development projects in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Specialising in energy efficiency in small-scale building materials production, my focus was mainly on fired clay bricks, lime and stabilised soil blocks. Along with technology, my work centred on participatory technology development as an epistemological approach.
Memberships / External Activities
I am a member of the RGS and active in the Participatory Geographies Research Group (PyGyRg). I am also a member of the Geographies of Justice and Transport research groups.
