Heterogeneous Catalysis and Surface Science

The group is internationally recognised for its work in the field, where it also has a significant presence in nanoscience and surface electrochemistry.

Inorganic Chemistry

Research groups within the Inorganic Chemistry section formulate, and subsequently develop the applications of, coordination complexes containing main group and transition metals.

Organic Synthesis

The group's work is focused on the development of novel synthetic methods and their application, typically in natural products or biologically active compounds of pharmaceutical or agrochemical significance.

Solid State and Materials Chemistry

The group investigates fundamental properties of materials, develops experimental techniques, and explores new practical applications.

Theoretical and Computational Chemistry

The group's research spans a wide range of activities, in theory, computational methods, computer implementation and application to a wide variety of chemical problems.

There are many active areas of research collaboration between these research groups, as well as active collaborations between members of the School of Chemistry and other Schools in Cardiff (particularly Pharmacy, Biosciences, Physics, Medicine and Engineering). There are also several collaborative research initiatives involving other universities in the UK and abroad, and with industrial companies. Details of the research interests of each individual member of staff may be found by linking to his or her academic profile page.
