Cardiff Chemistry is one of the world's leading Schools
16 May 2013
Cardiff School of Chemistry has been ranked in the world’s top 200 Chemistry departments according to a recently released prestigious international league table. The annual QSWorld University Rankings by Subject was published in May 2013, and it provides the only general means available to prospective students of placing universities in order for their subject of interest, rather than as whole institutions or broad faculty combinations.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject was launched in 2011, and now in its third year, it is a comprehensive guide to a range of popular subjects. The world’s top 200 departments are established in 30 different subjects. In the most recent survey, 2,858 universities were evaluated. To produce the rankings 68 million citations were analyzed and the provision of 8,391 programmes was verified. The ranking is based on 4 criteria - academic opinion; employer opinion; citation data; and H-index.
Professor Peter Knowles, Head of the School of Chemistry, said, “This recognition of the increasing standing of Cardiff Chemistry reflects the dedication of our staff in providing a stimulating programme for students, and in creating an internationally-leading centre for chemistry research”.
