Meet Rev. Dave Hutton
Name: Revd. Richard David (Dave) Hutton.
Position / Job Title: Methodist Chaplain at Cardiff University.
Responsibilities: I will be covering the maternity leave of my colleague Delyth Liddell on a part time basis during 2014. I will be working from The Chaplaincy at 61 Park Place alongside the Anglican Chaplain. While Delyth is on maternity leave, I hope to continue the good work that she has been undertaking. I very much share Delyth's views on the importance of an inclusive welcome to all students (and staff) to the chaplaincy.
Experience: I have been involved with the Anglican and Methodist churches from childhood. I qualified in Medicine in 1971 and have spent most of my professional life working with the former University of Wales College of Medicine. I have always had an active interest in ethics and care of the dying. I have been a Methodist Minister since 1999 combining this with my work as a doctor. Most recently I have had pastoral charge of Albert Road Methodist church in Penarth and Cadoxton Methodist church in Barry but I know Cardiff and the churches there well. I have previously helped with the work of the chaplaincy at Cardiff University.
Areas of Interest: I have been married for over 43 years to Lyn and have two grown-up sons and four grand-children. Apart from my church work, I have had a life-long interest in motorcycles and have taught advanced motorcycling with the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) since 1987. I enjoy music and sing with the Barry Male Voice Choir and Vale Voices. I have been very involved with problems associated with HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases and have worked closely with the Gay Community since HIV was first recognised.
