Centre for Advanced Studies
The Centre for Advanced Studies (CASS) is a research centre focused on advanced studies in the field of economic geography.
Founded in 1993, CASS is situated in Cardiff University’s School of Planning and Geography (CPLAN), and seeks to conduct advanced research in the field of economic geography. This research may be inter-disciplinary, and where appropriate inter-institutional and international, the results of which advance both academic knowledge and practical action.
CASS aims to achieve research excellence in the field of economic geography, with the present areas of study including:
- The geography of innovation and knowledge
- Sustainable economic growth and well-being
- Regional competitiveness and resilience
- Evolutionary economic geography
- Regional entrepreneurship and economic development
- Culture and economic geography
- Urban and regional governance
The site, at 44-45 Park Place, is capable of housing some 20 researchers and administrative support. IT facilities are extensive and the Centre has its own publication unit and electronic data archive. It also offers seminar space.
