Common Cold Centre | A centre of excellence devoted to the development of new treatments for coughs, colds and hay fever.

How to volunteer for our trials

Most of our volunteers are students or staff of the University and many visit us every time they have a cold. We test new medications for the treatment of common cold symptoms such as sore throat, blocked nose, headache, etc. Most of the medications we test will be freely available without prescription and are very safe.

All our clinical trials are approved by the local research ethics committee and you will be provided with full details of the clinical trial before you decide to participate.

Because common cold symptoms are so short lived it is essential you come to us as soon as you believe you have a cold. Also, do not take any medication as this will interfere with the effects of any test medication we may give you.

All volunteers will receive payment for the time they spend with us and for any inconvenience. The payments depend on the duration of the trial. If you are interested then further details can be obtained by telephoning :

02920 874099

Or call into the Centre. Access is via Park Place (opposite number 56) and the Centre is on the ground level of the Cardiff School of Biosciences.
