Why Hot Metal ? Metals are essential for life but in contrast they are also one of the most potent pollutants known to man. This site describes how my research team is exploiting the "genomic" era to discover how biological systems handle heavy metals. You can find out more about the past and present members of the research team and read about the projects in which they are involved. "Moving models" lets you see in three dimensions some of the fascinating molecules that bind metal ions within our cells. For other researchers, who are interested, I have included a description of the methods most commonly used in the laboratory and for those who want to learn more about heavy metal biology there are slides from a series of undergraduate leactures on this subject area. Further detailed scientific information can be retrieved by looking for appropriate references whilst those looking to see the hottest news should look on the "whats new" page.
