Research Overview
Research interests include:
- The mechanisms by which ADAMTS-4 & TS-5 (‘the aggrecanases’ ) are involved in cartilage destruction during the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis. Part of this work has led to the novel discovery of an alternative splice-variant of ADAMTS-4 synthesused in synovial tissue.
- The mechanisms by which glycosaminoglycan sulphation motifs influence the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells to connective tissue lineages with a particular focus on chondrogenesis.
- The pathogenesis of Kashin Beck Disease an endemic osteoarthropathy in China.
