Prof Yrjö Helariutta

Research Overview

Prof Helariutta is the recipient of numerous awards, including an EMBO Young Investigator award, and the European Young Investigator Awards (EURYI) scheme (designed to attract outstanding young scientists). He was elected as an EMBO member in 2008, and was the recipient of an European Research Council Advanced grant on "The role of symplastic communication during root development" in 2012. He is currently Director of the Research Program in Genome Biology at the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Helsinki as well as being an Associated Group of the Umea Plant Science Centre (Sweden). He holds the prestigious position of Professor of the Academy of Finland from 2013-2017. He has also recently accepted a position in the Sainsbury Laboratory of Cambridge University, where he will start later this year.
