Responsibilities

  • Researcher within the CRiBE Team
  • Energy Modeller
  • Compliance Analysis for Building Regulation PartL

Profile

Enrico is a Building Engineer with major in Architecture, degree in Building Engineering from The University of Cagliari, Italy in 2004. He started his career, working in architectural and engineer offices in Italy where he is registered as Member of the Italian Institute of Chartered Engineers. In 2006 he decided to move to Spain where he achieved the Master in Advanced Architecture “Self-Sufficient Housing” at the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalunya (IaaC), Barcelona, in 2007. During his Master research he carried out a comprehensive study on self-sufficient houses, low carbon design strategies, building energy modelling and he dealt also with experimental approaches related with the built environment (parametric design - digital tectonics –digital fabrication with 3D printer, Laser Cut and CNC machine). The research developed his skills in computer modelling techniques for assessing the built environment allowing him to focus on sustainable development, energy efficiency, renewable energy and recyclable materials. In Spain Enrico collaborated with V. Guallart Architects and worked for a short period in Santiago Calatrava office in Valencia. In 2008 he joined the “Master Science in Renewable Energy and Architecture” at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, achieving the degree in 2009.

He is skilled in various software simulation packages (Ecotect, Radiance, RetScreen, DesignBuilder, FluentCFD) and he has interest in modelling construction material properties, thermal mass, energy consumption for heating and cooling, daylight, carbon dioxide reduction, airflow and natural ventilation into buildings and urban areas.

Enrico is Researcher at the University of Cardiff within the CRiBE Team - School of Architecture. He is actually responsible for Modelling Energy Performances and Compliance Analysis of domestic and non-domestic Buildings (UK Regulation PartL). He is involved into the EU Program “Delivering Low Carbon Buildings in Wales-From Policy to Practice”.

Research Interests

  • Reduction of energy consumption and CO2 emissions
  • Optimization of Thermal Mass in building materials
  • Eco-compatible materials
  • Passive Design.
  • Integration of renewable energy in the architectural design process.
