Human Resources, Safety, Health & Environment
The Human Resources, Safety, Health & Environment Directorate is responsible for a wide range of activities to develop and maintain a positive working environment for University staff and students and support the efficient administration and operation of its policies.
The main areas of responsibility are:
- HR strategy and implementation
- Operational HR advice and contract management
- Staff recruitment and retention
- Organisational development
(including Positive Working Environment and Investors in People)
- Training and development
- Health & Safety
- Student & Occupational Health Management
- Environment
The Directorate is organised into two Divisions:
- Human Resources Division
- Occupational Safety, Health & Environment Unit (Director: Mr Mike Salmon)

Information Services
The Information Services Directorate plays a distinctive role in the University’s research, learning, teaching and administrative activities by developing and delivering superior library, computing and media services.
The Directorate has a vision "to be an essential partner and a fundamental element in the University's success, recognised world-wide as leaders in the delivery of information services".
It’s mission is "to deliver world-class information services that give staff and students an edge in realising their potential and achieving their objectives". This means working at the heart of the University’s intellectual life and corporate operation to provide superior information resources, systems, collaboration tools, discovery facilities, training and support, that give both individuals and groups a distinct advantage, and enable them to achieve world-class outcomes and international recognition in research, learning & teaching, Third Mission, administration and support services.
The main areas of responsibility of the Directorate are:

- The University library service
- Media resources and services
- Technical support and user education/enablement

The Physical and Financial Resources directorate is in charge of the day to day operations of the University infrastructure.

A key aim for the Directorate for Registry, Governance & Students is to provide effective, professional support for students and staff of Cardiff University and to work effectively with all groups and individuals it has contacts with outside of the University.

Strategic Development
The Directorate of Strategic Development has an important role to play in helping staff deliver the University's Vision of being a world class university. The Directorate contributes to the strategic thinking to support the Vision, provides structured planning and advice to share the Vision throughout the University and provides professional services to assist schools in research, student recruitment, funding and a range of other matters.
The Directorate has lead responsibility for the following main areas:
