4 June 2004
It was perfect weather for the inaugural SCAN Summer Ball held on 4th June at the Riverside suite in the Millennium Stadium.
There were some beautiful dresses on show as over 100 staff, friends and partners (including colleagues from UWCM) got dressed up for the evening. Dinner was preceded by a game of ‘heads and tails’ and followed by a moving and at the same time amusing speech by Mark Newbold, who told of his personal experience of surviving two bouts of testicular cancer and the support given to him and his family by Tenovus.
After dinner entertainment included a game of dance floor ‘bowls’ with pound coins for bowls and a bottle of whisky (the prize) as the jack. The raffle prizes were superb and included two flights to Amsterdam, meals at various restaurants/hotels in Cardiff and 10 tickets to Jongleurs Comedy Club, and the auction items were even better. Paul Fosh of Paul Fosh Auctions ensured that the bids (and the laughter) kept coming and the highest price was paid for the signed England Rugby Ball and fitness club month membership — a whopping £160 — beating both the signed Wales Rugby Shirt and the signed Wales Football shirt! Two separate spa experience and meal combinations also raised over £100 each. The round of golf for four on the Wales National Course at the Vale Hotel Spa and Golf Resort and the tickets to a Michael Buble concert combined with overnight stay both raised £100 each. The evening was topped off with a great disco and the floor was never empty!
The event was a huge success and raised over £2,100 for Tenovus. We are hoping to hold an even bigger Ball next year so if you missed out on the fun this time round make sure you come along in 2005!
