SCAN was launched at a wine tasting and quiz evening - the first of a series of staff social events designed to raise money for Tenovus during its 60th anniversary year, and for other local community causes.
The Vice-Chancellor Dr David Grant welcomed the setting up of the Network, which he said recognised the desire of many staff to put something back into the communities in which we live and work. Chief Executive of Tenovus, Dr Richard Walker, spoke about the charity’s work to fund research and to support cancer patients and their families through teams of nurses, counsellors and social workers.
More than 90 staff, split into teams, were challenged to identify mystery wines and take part in a trivia quiz. The event raised £173 in cash donations and raffle ticket sales, 75 per cent of which will go to Tenovus and 25 per cent to local community causes. Staff from across the University participated with enthusiasm in the contest and the winners were the aptly named ‘The Winos’ team from External Relations.
